Critical Fumble Deck

“From a dropped sword to hitting your friend in the back with an errant spear. Mistakes happen. In the heat of battle such fumbles range from comedy to deadly…” -Critical Fumble Deck, box

Upon an attack roll resulting in a natural 1, one is at risk of a more than missing with their attack:

  • When the Game Master has an attack roll result in a natural 1 any player, whose character is present, may spend one action die, from their pool, to grant the effect of one random card from the Critical Fumble Deck. In the event that the effect listed on the card cannot be effectively applied to the creature another card maybe be drawn until an applicable consequence is found.
  • When a Non-Player Character or Player Character has an attack roll result in a natural 1 the Game Master may spend an action die, from their pool, to grant the effect of one random card from the Critical Fumble Deck.
The effect applied to the blunderer is based on the type of attack that was made (melee, ranged, natural or magic). In the event that the effect listed on the card cannot be effectively applied to the character another card maybe be drawn until an applicable consequence is found.

Should one critically miss with a splash weapon they will suffer the effects of a direct hit from the item unto themselves. As if the weapon broke/exploded in their hand. Creatures caught in the splash radius will receive their saving throws as normal. It will cost an action die to make an alchemist suffer a direct hit from one of their own bombs. Otherwise they will only be caught in the splash radius as if they had dropped the bomb in their own square.
